Upgraded to Office 2010, now can't import spreadsheets or text files?

Had Office 2003 then 2007. After most recent upgrade, now I can't import either TXT files or XLS files.

I found this thread here that suggested opening the XLS file in a "hidden" window. While I dislike that approach, at least it worked.

But when it came time to import the TXT files, the same problem occurred. I tried a similar solution with Word documents, but alas, it did not work. I get the error "The search key was not found in any record". The error does *not* occur when I manually import the file via the Access GUI (it only happens when I try it via the "RunSavedImportExport" command in VBA).

Thus:

1) Can anyone help me past this particular error? Do I need to give more information?

2) Is there a more elegant way to fix this problem?
